Resilience
About This Course
Resilience: Thriving in studies and in life
This course will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to build resilience, helping you navigate academic pressures, setbacks, and personal challenges with confidence.
-
Growth Mindset (Carol Dweck): Re-framing intelligence and ability from fixed traits into qualities that expand through effort, strategic trial, and learning from mistakes. Setbacks become data rather than personal failure.
-
Cognitive Reframing: Recognizing how automatic thoughts (e.g., "I failed this quiz, so I'm going to fail the whole program") distort reality. Reframing involves identifying catastrophic thinking and replacing it with objective analysis.
-
Locus of Control: Discerning between what you can control (your preparation, reaction, sleep, study habits) and what you cannot control (exam difficulty, curved grading, external life events).
-
The Stress-Performance Curve (Yerkes-Dodson Law): Understanding that stress isn't inherently bad. Up to a point, pressure sharpens focus; beyond that, it degrades performance. Resilience keeps you in the optimal focus zone.
